POSSIBLE DRIVE

BALKAN DEVELOPMENT RUSSO-NAZI AIMS (Reed. Jan. 5, 9 a.m.) NEW YORK, Jan. 3. Serious developments may be expected soon, probably in the north or south-east of Germany, according to information reaching Canadian authoritative quarters from the war zone, states the Ottawa correspondent of the New York Times,

An attempt to attack England from air and submarine bases off Norway is possible, but it is considered more likely that there will be developments in the Balkans and toward the Dardanelles in an attempt to open the Danube for exploitation as an avenue for German supplies, after which the Germans will extend the field of operations to the Mediterranean. Russo-German collaboration under German direction is envisaged for such an attempt. It is believed that Britain is prepared for some such development and is closely watching the course of Italian diplomacy, which might be a decisive factor.
