GAIETY AT ROTORUA

SUCCESS OF CARNIVAL A carefree holiday spirit marked the New Year carnival which was held in Rotorua last week-end. the processions and celebrations on New Year’s Eve being attended by a crowd fully as large as in previous years. Two processions took place on Saturday, one in the afternoon and the second in the evening. Many peple gathered at the lake front on Sunday night, when the .■eremony of “bringing in the N?year” took place. Until midnight there was a concert of Maori and band items. Then, after the Mayor, Mr. T. Jackson, had thanked visitors and participants for making the carnival such a success, the lights went, out and three rockets were fired into the air. The celebrations ended with the crowd singing “Auld Lang Syne.” With motor camps filled to capacity and accommodation fully .booked, Rotorua is experiencing a busy holiday season.
