NAPIF.R HAPPENINGS The Mardi Gras area on Napier Marine parade was the scone of a second mishap in the early hours of Sunday morning, when a large marquee housing one of the amusement exhibits was destroyed by lire. The Napier brigade was promptly on the I scene, but could do nothing, as the canvas walls had been proofed with an inflammable compound, and the tent literally burst, into flame a few minutes after the tire was first noticed. The owner was able to save the contents before cutting the ropes and collapsing the tent to prevent the fire from spreading. During the week-end another stall, conducted by ihe Napier Retailers’ Association, was badly damaged, the canvas walls being slashed to ribbons during the early hours of the morning. I
