Miss Joan Bartram, Gladstone road, who has been visiting her brother, Mr. R. Bartram, “Kowhai Tops,” Tolaga Bay. has returned to town.

Mrs. D. Reid, Tolaga Bay, accompanied by Miss A. Reid, has left on a visit to her daughters, Mrs. P. Bellerby, Hawke’s Bay, and Mrs. P. Tredray, Eketahuna.

Miss J. Morris, Tolaga Bay, who was the guest of Mrs. J. C. N. Thomas, Owen road, while on a brief visit to Gisborne this week, left yesterday by plane for Marlon.

Tire attention of members of the Gisborne Women’s Club is drawn to an advertisement about the monthly social gathering, which takes place on Tuesday afternoon. A particularly delightful programme has been arranged.

Guild Card Party The Te Hapara Anglican Ladies' Guild held a successful flag livehundred evening in the Cook Street Hall on Wednesday evening. Play was m progress at 12 tables, and prizes were awarded to the following:—Winning table. —Mr. and Mrs R. Kelly and Mr. and Mrs. Cox. Most Flags.—Ladies: Mrs. Robb; gentleman: Mr. Wilson. Travelling Envelope: Mrs. Cox. A prize was awarded to Mr. Harvey.

At the conclusion of play supper was served by members of the guild.

Informal Party

On Wednesday afternoon Mrs. T. Ellery entertained her l'ellow-mem-bers of St. John’s Anglican Ladies’ Guild in a delightful manner at her home in Stout street in celebration of the the recent anniversary of her marriage.

Stocks and Iceland poppies were artistically combined in the decoration of the drawing-room, and Iceland poppies also were chosen for the adornment of the charminglyarranged tea table in the dining-room.

Two diverting competitions were entered into with enthusiasm, and the winners, Mrs. E. Trowell and Mrs. Wade, were each rewarded with an attractive gift.

The hostess was wearing a becoming frock of black cloque printed in a floral design in pastel tonings.

Ninety-two Years of Age

How many are there alive in the Dominion to-day who can claim that they were christened by the famous New Zealand pioneer bishop, Bishop Selwyn? This honour, however, fell to Mrs L. E. Duckworth, of Levin, who celebrated her ninety-second birthday a few days ago. Mrs. Duckworth (nee Lucinda Eyes) was born in Marlborough in 1847. her father being a pioneer' settler. Opportunity was taken to tender her a birthday tea by the members of St. Mary’s Ladies’ Guild, to which body she had been treasurer until last year, evoi sinct her arrival in Levin 27 years ago.

Mrs. Duckworth still carries on her duties as Levin secretary of the Church of England Missionary Board and the Church Chronicle. She is also president of the Levin branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society. Her husband died while on a visit to England just prior to the Great War, 1914-18. Except for slight deafness’. Mrs. Duckworth retains her faculties in the highest degree.
