WHANGAREI PIGEON
FOUND AT PARITU A stray pigeon believed to belong to a Whangarei fancier has found a home for the time being at one of the railway camps south of Gisborne. The Herald’s ICopuawhara representative advised that the pigeon was found at No. 5 Camp, Paritu, last week-end and was now in the care of Mrs. R. Rangi. The bird carried two rings, one with the inscription N.Z.33 WH.158, and the other 849 N. The secretary of the Poverty BayCentral Homing Pigeon Society explains that the bird apparently belongs to a member of the Whangarei club, and he intends communicating immediately with that club. The incident recalls a recent announcement in the Herald of the unexpected arrival home of a pigeon that had been lost two years previously. The bird is the only one that has yet returned home from a race organised from the Three Kings. The story received wide publicity throughout the North Island and the local fancier concerned, Mr. A. O’Neill, has since received letters from the Stratford and North Auckland districts informing him of the presence in those localities of pigeons, possibly from the missing flock of birds.
