MEDALS PRESENTED TO FIREMEN

The annual presentation of service medals to members of the Greymouth Fire Brigade was held at the Central Station last evening. In the absence of the chairman of the Grey Fire Board (Mr J. G. Walton), the presentations were made by Mr G. R. Harker, who congratulated the recipients. Awards were made as follows: — Two-year gold bar.—Fireman G. Batty (total service, 27 years).. Two-year silver bar.—Secretary J. Grant (total service 23 years); Branchman F. McEnaney (21 years); Branchman J. Hoggarth (nine years); Fireman F. Brennan (seven years); Fireman G. Kirk (seven years). Three-year certificate.— Fireman N. Hopkins. The McDowell Cup, competed for annually by a two-man team in fire drill, was won by Firemen' L. Patterson and G. Kirk, the presentation being made by Mr J. Stokes. Following the presentation the firemen entertained members of the Fire Board at a social evening.
