REBATE SUGGESTED: GREY COUNTY RATES PAYMENTS
“I would suggest that the county give a rebate of 2J per cent, for prompt payment on rates,” stated Mi J. Graham (Rotomanu) when ne raised the subject of Grey County Council rate payments at a meeting of Federated Farmers (West Coasi; yesterday. . . T , Mr H. D. Beckett (chairman): It is rather a difficult subject. I would suggest that the Rotomanu branch, sponsor the movement among the other branches which are included in the Grey county area. Your branch could not put the federation’s name behind this request as yet, as only the branches concerned would be interested in the suggestion. If the rebate applied to all the counties on the West Coast, it would be a different matter - XI X XI Mr Beckett suggested that the Rotomanu branch should make contact with other branches of the federation which were in the Grey County. Mr P. J. O’Regan expressed the view that the system of rebate would not give any substantial benefit. He pointed out that each local body plotted out in its estimates a certain amount of expenditure for each year, and that if the rebate were granted the body simply had to levy a heavier rate.
