MINE MANAGERS ENTERTAIN MR STRONGMAN
One of the biggest gatherings of mining executives ever held m Greymouth took place last evening when the New Zealand mine managers tendered a complimentary dinner at Revingtons Hotel to Mr C. J. Strongman, on the occasion of his retirement from the position of Superintendent of State Coal Mines at Greyr mouth. There was an attendance of 30 guests including the -Assistant Under-Secretary of Mines, Mr p - M. Outhwaite, Mr J. O. B. Hughes (Mr Strongman’s successor) and managers from the North Island and as tar south as Otago. Mr J. Rarity, of Stockton (president of the New Zealand Mining In stitute) presided. Also present were almost all the Buller, Reefton and Grey district managers dnd mines inqnectors. The principal toast of the evening, that to Mr Strongman, was proposed by Mr Rarity, who paid a tribute to the guest’s long and valuable service in the mining industry and referred to the happy relations which had always existed between Mr Strongman and the mine managers. Many other speakers endorsed the chairman’s remarks and added personal congratulations to Mr Strongman on the completion of an outstanding record of service in the industry. , ■ Presentations of two travelling rugs and a set of pipes, encased in a box of West Coast woods and mounted with silver, were made to Mr Strongman by Mr Rarity.
