High Glory Is Well Placed In Cup Event At Te Aroha

Unlucky in her last start at Avondale, High Glory appeals as one of the most likely contenders for the major honours in the Ralph Somers Memorial Cup, of £l5OO, at the Te Aroha Racing Club’s meeting tomorrow. High Glory, a high-class galloper, is a sound stayer and she will probably be favourite tomorrow, although in a big field there is room for a surprise. The hardy galloper, Conspiracy, who was a close second last Saturday at the Ohinemuri meeting, and the good stayer Cowper will also enter considerations tomorrow.

Favourite for the second leg tomorrow, the Electric Handicap, may be Talisman, who is a proved sprinter. Classowa also -is on the verge of winning form, while Sleepy Duke has not been far away in recent starts.

The following horses should race prominently:—

Herriesville Hurdles. —The Bat, Sareel, Forest Ranger. Trial Handicap.—First Division: Hidden Treasure, Becca Town. Second Division: Relentless, Clay Piper.

BRILLIANT TRIAL BY JAMELL FOR WINGATUI EVENT DUNEDIN, Sept. 28 (P.A.).—A good gallop over seven furlongs by the Dunedin Guineas candidate, My Hero, and a brilliant six furlongs by Jamell, were highlights of the trials for the final day of the Dunedin Jockey Club’s spring meeting at iWingatui this morning. Nearly all the gallops took place on the outside of the course proper, which was in [perfect order. My Hero was travelling very easily alongside Dark Courage at the [end of seven furlongs in 1.31 1-5. iThey dashed'over the first half-mile [in 49 2-5. Their last four furlongs took 54 2-5. My Hero appears to be right back to his best again. Jamell recorded a brilliant trial for his engagement in the Federal Handicap when he clocked 1.15 1--5 for six furlongs. He went over the first three furlongs at the rate of |l2sec to the furlong, and came home the last four furlongs in 51 1-5. He was travelling easily at the finish, and he will be at short odds in his race on Saturday. All Hurry and Cherry Prince were on terms on completing six furlongs, which took 1.22, the last four in 54 2-5.

Roving Robin was not required to do his best when completing five furlongs in 1.4 1-5, the opening furlong in 12 3-5. He should not be long off the winning list. Robbie appeared to be going better than Whittaker at the end of five furlongs in 1.6, the last four in 52 4-5.

Ned Kelly went well ovei’ half a mile in 50 1-5. He should race well 'in the Federal Handicap on Saturday. Bobs March was travelling easily at the end of half a mile in 51 3-5, ithe opening furlong in 12 2-5. He is expected to race well in the Dunedin Guineas.

St Columba was working well within himself to shade Sivite over the same ground in 52 1-5. Robin Redbreast and Hobgoblin were on terms at the end of their half-mile in 53sec. Both were keen to increase the pace. Cricket Field came home the last four of six furlongs in 53 1-5. He may make a forward showing in the Milburn Hack Handicap.

Good Gallops There was a little galloping on the course proper at Riccarton yesterday. Quarry, Declare, and Boniface were on terms at the end of half a mile in 48 3-5, after Boniface had been in front early. Coral Arc and Ballochmyle were mates over a mile in 1.43 4-5, the last half-mile being run in 50 2-5.
