Americans Launch Counter-attack
TOKIO, This Day (Rec 1 p.m.) The American- 24th Division opened a major counter-attack this morning against the North Koreans in the > Changnyong bridgehead on the east of the Naktong river. The American advance began in heavy rain against forces estimated at 10,000 in the bulge at the south end of the river. The counter-attack was launched after an American reserve force had cleaned out Communist road-blocks around Yongsan, five miles behind the American front. Major-General John Church, 24th Division commander, said the aim of -the push was “to drive the enemy back across the river or destroy him on this side.”
