Air Force Strikes Heavy Blows At Enemy Targets

TOKIO, This Day (Rec. 1 p.m.).— The Far East Air Force operational summary says that Superfortresses struck heavy blows at the North Korean industrial potential and transportation system yesterday, while maintaining, along with the R.A.A.F., full-scale tactical support of the United Nations’ ground troops in the battle area.

The Superfortress strikes were launched on the strategic bridge system, port facilities and supply handling points north of the 38th parallel. The primary target was the important North Korean port and rail transportation centre of Najin, on the north-eastern coast. More than 500 tons of bombs were dropped by three successive waves of Superfortresses. Heavy cloud prevented an analysis of the resultant damage to the dock areas, marshalling yard and storage facilities for oil and other military supplies. Several other targets north of the 38th parallel, including the key marshalling yards at Samhung and the rail section of the Bogul . chemical plant at Konan, were also hit. Rail and highway bridges were given high priority for attack. The summary says that aerial reconnaissance of the east coast transportation network has confirmed the paralysing effect of the strategic interdiction programme now in progress. More than 250 miles of main rail work was surveyed without sighting a single supply train.
