Closing Of Hokitika Customs Office Opposed

The Minister in charge of Customs (Mr C. M. Bowden) has advised Mr j. B. Kent, M.P., that no action will be taken to close the Customs office at Hokitika until a full investigation has been made. In connection with the matter, Hokitika interests forwarded the following telegram to the Minister: “Please stop action closure of Hokitika as Customs port. Details required by each undersigned to enable protests io be lodged. Only information was published by Greymouth Chamber of Commerce which has no connection whatever with Hokitika. (Signed) A. E. Perry (Mayor), J. B. Hood (Progress League), W. J. Richards (secretary of the Businessmen’s Association).”

It is understood that a similar protest is' to be sent by the secretary iof the Hokitika Harbour Board (Mr E. W. Heenan).
