PETONE SETTLERS WERE EXTENDED
Whether or not any significance attaches to it, the fact remains that each of the two Rugby tests played so far has ' coincided with stormy southerly weather in Wellington, writes a correspondent. The second of these breaks in the springlike conditions which have prevailed on other Saturdays was particularly unfortunate for the opening series of elimination matches to find the Wellington Chatham Cup representatives. Apart from the rain the strong wind directly influenced the play. The match upon which interest chiefly centred was that between Petone, holders of the Cup, and Hospital, which rarely visits the Basin Reserve. Petone rattled on three goals quickly but for the remainder of the match had good cause to feel relieved that it had started so well: Petone could produce nothing more to counter a goal by Hospital. Since the latter team, is only one rung from the bottom of the championship ladder doubts as to whether’ the Settlers can retain the trophy are more freely expressed than ever.
