Wellington Premiership
Intense interest has been created in Rugby League circles in the championship final tomorrow between Marist and Waterside. Premiership honours for 1950 will hinge on the outcome of this game. Not for many years has the issue been in doubt till so late a stage, says the Sports Post. Waterside have not won the championship since 1945 but this season they have probably the strongest team fielded since the club’s inception.-' Their backline has no weak link, and Tamati, Evans, Stenhouse, and Parata are a particularly penetrative quartet. When the teams met in the first round Marist held a slender 8-7 lead for most of the second spell and though the final quarter hour was disastrous for Waterside, Marist gained a healthy respect for the strength of the Waterside opposition. Few critics are predicting the outcome of this match.
