LONDON FASHIONS
Two of the top London fashion houses are showing one-ear berets in soft crush fabric. Worn with a careless air, they completely cover one ear and part of one side of the face. The ear left revealed is adorned with a single tear-shaped drop ear-ring, says an overseas writer. All-black and all-navy costumes invariably have small bright hats and “shorties.” A blue cocktail outfit trimmed with starched white eyelet embroidery is worn with an all-white straw bonnet and tiny self-fabric gloves, edged with miniature white frill, which are so short that they barely reach the wrist. Swing ear-rings are a graceful reminder of one of the best fashion notes from the ’2o’s. Revived two seasons ago, they have become a universal favourite with smartly dressed women. Jets, pearls, crystal, and at one house real pearls, diamonds and rubies, hang from long slim chains, which in some cases almost touch the shoulders.
A new plastic light-weight pearl is used effectively for this rather shorter and more chunky type drop ear-ring worn with short evening dress, while the daytime version is either shaped like a tear-drop attached close to the ear, or two or three graduated pearls hanging from a flat earlobe button pearl. The Victorian lapel watch on a double chain hanging from a long narrow bar made its appearance on one tailored silk cocktail suit. Both watch and pin were set in black and pink enamel. Another watch, pinned on a man-tailored suit with a gold safetypin, looked exactly like grandfather s old timekeeper, comnlete with a little case which springs open when you press the time winder.
