SECOND-YEAR MEDICAL STUDENTS AREGRANTED BURSARIES

DUNEDIN, March 31 (P.A.).—A number of second year medical students at the Otago Medical School received official advice today that they had been granted their'bursaries for the year. This information was given by Mr G. K. McKenzie, class /representative of the Otago Medical Students’ Association.

Last month 17 second-year medical students at the school were informed that they had not been granted bursaries and during the recent visit to Dunedin of the Prime Minister (Mr Holland) representations were made to him by Mr McKenzie on behalf of the students concerned. Mr Holland then gave an assurance that he would look into the question and give an early reply to the representations made. Mr McKenzie said that all the students concerned except one had been informed that they had received the usual bursary. “The students are naturally delighted that their representations have received such favourable consideration from the Government,” Mr McKenzie said: “The only alternative that faced them was to drop the course altogether after they had purchased books and instruments.”
