BOWLING FIRST ROUND PAIRS COMPLETED THIS MORNING AT COBDEN

The first round of the champion of champions pairs in the West Coast Women’s Bowling Centro’s championship tournament was played at the Cobden green this morning. The leading pairs from seven West Coast clubs are entered.

Playing good bowls and keeping even with their opponents as the game progressed, the Dunollie pair, Mrs Heslin and Mrs Brown, defeated Karoro (Mesdames Mann and McRobie) 21-19, after a closely-fought match. At the 20th head Karoro was in the lead 19-17, but the Dunollie pair scored a four at the last end to win the match.

. 'rhe Blackball, Dunollie, and Runanga teams also qualified for the semi-final, which will be played this afternoon. The final will also be decided this afternoon.

Results this morning were: —First round: Dunollie (Mesdames Heslin, Brown) 21 v Karoro (Mesdames Mann, Mcßobie) 19; Blackball (Mesdames Boyd, Walker) 23 v Blaketown (Mesdames Manson, Ryan) 10; Cobden (Mesdames Geary, Alderson) 32 v Hokitika (Mesdames Hausman, Nightingale) 8.
