CHRISTMAS MAIL UNDER-STAMPED

AUCKLAND, This Day (P.A.).— Nearly five per cent, of the Christmas card postings from Auckland to overseas were under-stamped. This applied particularly to mails sent to Australia. Most under-stamping was of cards sent by airmail. This meant that a card weighing over half an ounce sent to Britain and bearing Is 3d in stamps would cost the recipient 2s 6d. The excess charge is assessed at Auckland and collected on delivery. A feature of this year’s outward mail was the large use made of health stamps. The post office estimated that between 20 and 30 per dent, of all surface and air mail carried at least one health stamp.
