SEAMAN REMANDED ON ASSAULT CHARGE
WELLINGTON, This Day (P.A.). —The possibility of a more serious charge being preferred was mentioned by Senior Detective J. Gibson in the Magistrate’s Court today when asking for a remand on an as-’ sault charge against Donald George Deddicoat, aged 20, a seaman. Detective Gibson said that the al-* leged offence occurred on the night of December 26. The victim, Alan Dempster MacLeod, had been hit on the head with a bottle of beer and received medical attention, and was at present confined to bed. There was the possibility of a relapse, in which case a more serious charge would be made against the accused. Detective Gibson added that the accused was a member of the crew of the Storm, which shortly was to sail for Wanganui. Remanding the accused until January 5, the Magistrate, Mr M. B. Scully, fixed bail at £lOO and sureties for the same amount.
