Italy Swept By Storms
ROME, November 28 (Rec. 11.30 a.m.). —Heavy flood damage is reported today from various parts of Italy. Fleets of small boats were out in the northern and central areas rescuing families frorm rooftops after a week-end of gales and storms. Church bells tolled in Pisa to give a warning of the flood waters swirling through a breach in the banks of the river Arno. Vast areas were flooded in provinces of Bologna, Venice and Tascana, where many rivers burst their banks. In Venice, canals too overflowed and flooded homes and fields. The police and firemen mobilised a fleet of boats to evacuate 100 children from a low-lying quarantine hospital near Boorgo, San Lorenzo. A woman and child were killed when a building collapsed in Genoa, but 40 other occupants escaped before the walls crashed.
