Richards Is Leading Jockey For 22nd Time

LONDON, November 19.—Reuter says that the Aga Khan was the leading owner, Frank Butters the most successful trainer, and Gordon Richards the champion jockey for the 1949 British flat-racing season, which ended today. The Aga Khan, with 18 horses, won 38 races valued at £68,619. Lord Derby, with 10 horses, was second, winning 17 races to the value of £35,054. Mr Boussac, of France, was third, with 10 horses winning 13 races worth £33,280.-. ■ Frank Butters, with winners of 42 races worth £71,720, was the leading trainer for the eighth time. Gordon Richards .from 776 mounts had 261 winners— eight fewer than his record in 1947. He was the champion British jockey for the twentysecond time. Douglas Smith was run-ner-up with 136 winners from 747 mounts. . „. Nearco was the leading sire. His progeny won 48 races worth £52,140.
