JUDGE DISAGREES WITH VERDICT IN MURDER CASE

CAPE TOWN, November 7 (Rec 1 The Judge at Port Elizabeth sentenced a man to death today and at the same time made public his belief that the charge of murder against him had not been proved. The condemned man was a 40-year-old native, George Lincoln, who was charged with the murder of a policeman last February. Mr Justice Lewis disagreed with the two assessors who had sat on the bench with him to try the case and* who had held that the charge had been proved. The Judge said: “I am not satisfied, but in the terms of the law you are found guilty.” Lincoln has been granted leave to appeal and the papers in the case have been sent to the Governor-Gen-eral.
