A BUSINESS MAN WHO TOOK TO THE OPEN ROAD

AUCKLAND, This Day (PJV.).— There are no telephones to worry a former Melbourne business man, Mr Leslie T. Hunt. His wife is not tied to household duties and their 10-year-old daughter Marion goes to school only when she is near one. Their £3OOO caravan, “The Wanderer.” is very well equipped. This vehicle of silver aluminium brought them here last night after travelling 9000 miles in New Zealand. Life for the Hunts began at 40, they said today They have declared for the open road. “We are here to meet people and see places,” Mr Hunt remarked. “We like meeting people best.” They were received by the Mayors of Dunedin, Ashburton and other places and had a photograph of New Plymouth presented to them. Not all week-end _ motorists they met were madmen, said Mr Hunt, but it was easily the most dangerous time to be on the road. Many were erratic, drove too fast and on the wrong side of the road. They 'tried to race others to one-way bridges, could not make it and then expected others to back off first, but truck drivers were different. They even gave finger warnings of following traffic. Today Mr Hunt called on the Automobile Association to express thanks for courtesies received throughout New Zealand. On Monday the caravan will leave for Whangarei, thence to Spirits Bay. Australia and South Africa are the next objectives. .
