SALE OF HOTEL IS APPROVED BY LAND COMMITTEE

“It is astonishing the way in which hotels change hands. No sooner do people get into a hotel than they want to get out.” This comment was made by the chairman, Mr M. Wallace, at a sitting this morning of the Westland Ldnd Valuation Committee. The committee was reviewing an application for the transfer of ownership of the Dillmanstown Hotel from J. Pritchard to S. F. Benger. The present vendor had bought the hotel in question for £l6OO last year and had spent £4OO on improvements, said Mr Wallace. The price asked for the hotel had to be considered in the light of the trade at the hotel, said Mr A. M. Jamieson, i-epresentmg the vendor. It was in an excellent locality. Illhealth was the main reason for the sale in tliis c&se. “The price of £2OOO for this hotel compares more than favourably with some other hotels, which are priced near the £3OOO mark. Ido not think that the vendor is asking an excessive price,” stated Mr A. Wogan, Crown representative. The sale was approved. Included in the other applications approved were the following:— L. O. Fitzsimmons to I. J. Devaney, property at Hokitika, price £385. E. Gilmore to W. Streeter, property at Roa, price £215. T. M. Cormack to C. Smeaton, for sale of goodwill and improvements only (tenancy), price £320 (stock £275). S. Patterson to J. Inwood, property at Rimu, price £250. J. J. Ryall to W. Butterworth, property at Waiwhero, price £l7O. J. J. Ryall to A. T. Richards, property at Waiwhero, price £3OO. A. N. Straker to J. Hewlett, property at Greymouth, price £153. D. E. Potter to A. N. Mullin, property at Greymouth, price £BO. Public Trustee to A. R. Alexander, property at Cobden, price £675. M. W. T. Moore to R. G. Moore, property at Cobden, price £75.
