BRITAIN’S SHARP RETORT TO HUNGARIAN NOTE

LONDON, October 4 (Rec. 11.20 a.m.).—The British Foreign Office today criticised the tone and contents of the Note which the Hungarian Government handed the British Government on the character of the Federal Republic which has been established in Germany. A Foreign Office spokesman said: “The British Government sees no reason why an ex-enemy Government, with no responsibility for the administration of Germany should address such a Note to it. “This Note alleged that the new German Federal Republic was undemocratic. The British Government sees no reason for this allegation, especially as the Hungarian Government itself has eliminated all opposition to its own totalitarian regime.”
