A Big Catch While trout caught at the week-end, which was the opening of the season, were not remarkable so far as size was concerned, one Greymouth angler had reason for pride at his catch made last night. The fisherman was Mr B. McGirr and he hooked a shining jack fish which tipped th<s scales at 61b 14ozs. On “The Point” opposite the. old Nile Wharf three people netted about 15 tins making more than 465 pints. Tin catches were numerous and the best hauls seem to have been made in the lower reaches of the Buller river up to “The Point.” Some good catches were also reported in the Orowaiti riyer but those who left at the turn of the tide were disappointed. The service planes took capacity loads to the Wellington market while large quantities were sent to Christchurch. The price at Westport was 2s 6d a pint on the river but much more in some quarters.
