MOA CREEK MURDER: NERVOUSNESS AMONG RESIDENTS

DUNEDIN, October 5 (P.A.).—No arrest has yet been made in the Moa Creek case. It is now a week since Mr William Fraser Mclntosh was killed in his own woolshed a little moer than 50 yards from his home. Since then more than 20 members of the police force have been.making widespread inquiries, but so far without definite result. In the last two days the search'for the wedpon used in the attack on Mr Mclntosh has been intensified. The police have been draining several ponds that dot the valley in which Mr Mclntosh’s farm is situated. Their search has covered a circle of eight milesJ radius from the farm.

Although the police appear to be concentrating on the Moa Creek district, they have travelled considerable distances in almost every direction following various lines o'f inquiry.

.The search for the man who is reported to have called at Mr Mclntosh’s farm on the afternoon of his death has been steadily pursued. It was reported to the police last week that this man was seen by Mrs McIntosh coming from the direction of the woolshed, and' that when she spoke to him he inquired if the farm was that of a neighbouring farmer. In the Ida Valley many of the residents are nervous after dark. On the scattered farms womenfolk refuse to be left alone at night, and doors and windows are carefully locked. Callers at some farms after dark have been met by the farmers themselves armed with rifles or shotguns.
