LAWN TENNIS ADDITIONAL GRANT: £50 TO COBDEN CLUB
Advice was received at the annual meeting' of the Cobden Tennis Club that an additional grant of £5O had been received from the Internal Affairs Department towards the cost of the construction of the club’s new courts?
The president, Mr A. L. Abbie j% in his annual report, stated that work on the new courts had been delayed by bad weather, but that it was hoped to have one court completed within two months and the second in use by January. He commended the club’s efforts in working bees and asked for continued support in this direction. The balance-sheet showed the club to be in a sound financial position, having no liabilities despite the construction of the new courts. There was a good attendance of members and it was decided officially to open the playing season on October 8. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr F. W. Baillie; president, Mr A. L. Abbie; yenpresidents, Messrs G. W. Todd, W. Kells, G. McKenzie, A. Mosely; secretary, Mr I. McMillan; treasurer, Mr g’ W. Todd; club captain, L. O’Neill; committee, R. J. Watkin, E. Flemming, C. Kittelty, R. Brown, B. Mettrick, H. Jones, and three women members to be elected.
