NO REMISSION OF FINES IMPOSED ON MAJOR UNIONS
MELBOURNE, Sept. 23.—Fines amounting to £5OOO imposed on three major Australian unions for contempt of the Arbitration Court during the recent coal strike, will not be remitted. This was 4he unanimous decision of the Full Bench of the Arbitration Court, which today issued its reserved judgment on claims for the remission of the fines. The Miners’ Federation had been fined £2OOO, the Waterside Workers’ Federation £2000,. and the Federated Ironworkers’ Association £ 1000. The Chief Judge (Mr . Justice Kelly), Mr Justice Kirby, and Mr Justice Dunphy said that no grounds could be found for discharging the orders imposing fines,
