8095 TONS OF COAL CONSIGNED FROM REEFTON IN MONTH
REEFTON, This Day (0.C.) .—ln four weeks, consignments of coal from the Reef con railway yards totalled 8095 tons, representing the hewings at Rcefton district coal mines. The monthly total V/as reduced by the loss of five shifts at Garvey’s Creek mine, where some 375 tons were lost, due to a dispute in which the miners were involved. „, . This was reflected in only 1783 tons being consigned in the last week ol the month. NATIONAL PARTY MEETING A well attended meeting of members and supporters of the Reefton branch of the National Party was held at the Oddfellows’ Hail on Friday. Addresses were given by Mr T. P. Shand, M.P. for Marlborough, and Mr P. McDonald. Che National Party candidate for the Buller electorate. , . Mr Shand spoke on current issues. Mr McDonald dealt more specifically with the coming general election. Ecth speakers were accorded an attentive hearing and votes of thanks were carried. R.S.A. CLUB EVENING The Returned Services’ Club held a very well attended Ladies’ Evening at the club rooms on' Saturday evening. Dancing, games and musical items formed the programme. Mr F. Archer was M.C. Mrs J. Crossman won the musical chairs competition. Mr W. G. Porter won the men’s competition. The R.S.A. Men’s “Glee Circle” gave items. Messrs F. Archer and J. Crossman gave a humorous sketch. Mrs V\F. Burnett sang solos. Mesdames W. Archer and F. Marshall and Mr W. J. Humphries were accompanists.
