A.S.R.S. COUNCIL REAFFIRMS “NO” DECISION
WELLINGTON, August 1 (P.A.). —The executive council of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants reaffirmed its opposition to peace-time conscription, in a statement issued tonight, which says that, after having fully discussed the position in regard to peace-time military training, the council decided to reaffirm the decision of the society’s conference in February this year to oppose peace-time conscription. The statement adds that the following additional resolution was carried: “That the executive council of the society enter a protest against use of public moneys by Parliament in their conscription campaign without the same financial assistance being afforded to anti-conscription organisations.” The statement says opinions were expressed “that this constituted a grave misuse of public moneys.” Dannevirke ‘Yes’ Support DANNEVIRKE, This Day (P.A.).— Attended by about 200, a meeting representative of the borough .and county of Dannevirke, the R.S.A. Air Force Association, Home Servicemen’s Association was addressed by Messrs P. G. Connolly M.P., K. J. Holyoake M.P., R. A. Simpson, president of the R.S.A., unanimously p'assed a motion supporting compulsory military training.
