SPECIAL APPEALS FOR OVERSEAS RELIEF BY CORSO

WELLINGTON, This Day (P.A.) .— The Wellington special appeal on Saturday to meet the CORSO 1949-50 budget of £16,000 yielded £3600. Similar appeals in Invercargill arid Gore on the same day brought in £B5O and £2OO. CORSO has been advised by the National Council of Churches that the latter intends to encourage churches to send their relief overseas by means cf CORSO since, by that means, a contribution could be made through wholly reliable organisations to both China and Europe. The letter adds that in the course of the discussion at the annual meeting of the National Council of Churches the desirability of a further nationwide drive, such as that sponsored by the Government in 1948 for the children of the world was mentioned. The National Council expressed its willingness to support any approach made by CCRSO to the Government for some similar type of appeal.
