MONEY SEWN INTO SEAMS OF OLD CLOTHES
AUCKLAND, This Day (P.A.).—A 10s parcel of old clothes which Mrs Moolin She Choong sent to China in February was actually worth £715 more. She had sewn the money into the seams. She was charged in the Police Court today with transmitting money without permission. The police said the defendant had admitted her action, saying that she was better off than her people in China and wanted to help them. Defending counsel, Mr Henry Ah Kew, added that the money was the greater part of her savings. Eighty dollars had been forfeited and there was some doubt concerning what would .become of the New Zealand m M?F. McCarthy, S.M., saying that it was not the usfal case of currency smuggling, made the fine £lO for sending the dollars and convicted and discharged the defendant on the charge relating to £690 in New Zealand currency. .
