Truck Smashed Against Pole At Coal Creek
A heavy motor truck carrying sideshow equipment was badly damaged and the telephone lines to Runanga were brought down in a spectacular accident at Coal Creek about 10.30 last night. The proprietor of the sidq-show, Mr J. Saunders, of Auckland was driving from Greymouth to Runanga when the truck lights failed in fog, at the Runanga end of the Coal Creek overbridge. The truck left the road and collided with a telephone post on the left hand side of the road, just off the Coal Creek bridge.
The collision brought down the pole and wires and smashed the truck and a good deal of the contents. The cab was wrenched almost off the vehicle, but the driver, who was the only occupant, escaped injury. Telephone communication between Grey mouth and Runanga was not restored until late today, temporary lines having to be erected at the scene of the smash.
