NEW FEEDER LINE REQUIRED FROM DOBSON TO TOWN

The nee(| for another line to fte erected between Dofcson and Grey-, mouth to the extra power required was : mentioned in the report of the engineer, Mr S. W. J. Trotter to the Grey Electric Power Board last evening. He stated that the load in and around Greymouth was becoming too difficult to handle on the existing high tension feeder and it was proposed to run another feeder from Dobson into the town, using the old pole line formerly carrying one of the 33,000 volt circuits from Arnold river, and retained by the board when the Government purchased the Arnold system.

New poles would be required from Omoto to Greymouth, he stated adding that at times the existing feeder was carrying, loads well in excess of its capacity. The State Hydro-Elec-tric Department, was preparing to equip the Cfonadun sub-station, and when this new point of supply became available, the load in the Reefton area could be increased substantially and handled more economically, Mr Trotter added. ■ . Street Lights High tension line maintenance had been carried out at Karoro and Herbert street, Greymouth, Stillwater and Te Kinga, reported the engineer. Low tension maintenance and alterations had been completed at Ten Mile Creek foi’ co-operative mines, and at Baxter’s Siding and Kaiata. A short extension had been built at Dobson township to make provision for a new transformer required there, and the substation partially completed. New street. lamps had been fitted at four points and a start made to run a circuit for new lamps required at Omoto and the Kaiata settlement. The supply of materials for this work was still coming forward in quantities below requirements, but it was hoped to be able to fit up all the lamps which had been applied for. Since last meeting four new applications had been received and permits issued. Twelve new consumers had been connected. Applications now totalled 6379 and consumers 6316. During the mbnth 65 permits had been issued for alterations to existing installations, 40 extensions completed and I’2 ranges and 13 waterheaters installed. Total Load The load at last meeting had been 41,519.66 k.w. and with the load for the month 195.06 k.w. gave a new total of 41,714.72 k.W. The secretary, Mr W. S. McClymont, reported that advice had been received from the Director of Price Control approving of the increase in the unit charge to the Mines Department from 0.25 d to 0.30 d.
