GREYMOUTH SCOUT TO ATTEND MOOT IN NORWAY
A member, of the Greymouth Rover Scout crew, Mr Alan, Dodd, of Greymouth, will leave towards the end of next month to attend the Rover Scout World Moot, which is to be held in Skjak, Norway, from August 1 to August 12. He will be a member of a New Zealand contingent of 33 rover scouts, some of whom have already left for Norway. Over 4000 rover scouts from various countries will attend the gathering. Mr Dodd will join a group of five Canterbury rovers at Christchurch, from where they will leave on May 30 for Auckland. From there they will proceed on June 3 to Sydney by the Monowai. The scouts will spend four days in Sydney, after which they will embark on the Orion for Southampton, where they are scheduled to arrive on July 16. A large sum of money is required to cover the bare expenses' of Mr Dodd’s trip to Norway and an attempt will be made on Saturday to reach this sum. Funds are being collected by the Boy Scouts’ Association by various methods. A bottle drive will be held on Saturday, when Scouts and Wolf Cubs will divide the town into sections and make a house-to-house canvass.
The site chosen for the world moot, Skjak, is 1200 feet above sea level and has the lowest rainfall in Norway. It lies well up towards Totunheiman, the best-known mountain district in Norway. The Rovers will be divided into patrols of 10 and will cook and eat,Norwegian food.
