DOCTORS TO FIGHT CONSCRIPTION IN AUSTRALIA

SYDNEY, March 11. “The conscription of the medical profession through the new legislation introduced yesterday in the Senate will be fought, by all possible legal means,” said Dr J. Hunter, Federal secretary of the British Medical Association. today. “The measure is a devious and cunning attempt to evade the provision of the Constitution that there shall be no civil conscription. “The effect of this crude legislation would be to force doctors to write their prescriptions from those which happen to be in the Government formulary, and so bring themselves under Government control.”
