TWO STATES SEEK TO INTERVENE IN BANKING APPEAL

(Rec. 10.35 a.m.) LONDON, March 11

The Governments of New South Wales and Queensland lodged with the Privy Council today a petition for leave to intervene in the banking case appeal. The two Governments seek to support the Commonwealth Government’s contention that the Banking Act, which the High Court has invalidated, does not contravene section 92 of the Constitution.

The Privy Council will consider the petition on Monday before it begins hearing the Commonwealth appeal, abroad because we have spelling
