CAMPAIGN STARS CONDEMNED AS JUNK

(Rec. 9 a.m.) SIDNEY, This Day.

The New South Wales branch of the Returned Servicemen’s League has condemned the quality of the campaign stars now being issued by the Government.

The State president of the league (Mr K. McL. Bolton) said that his organisation is prepared to support protests made by the Ballarat exservicemen that the medals, which carry no indication of ownership, lack distinction.

“They are cheap junk and an insult to the men and women who served their country,” he added. “They have no names or numbers on them. As they are, they will not be worth a cracker —you will be able to buy them in a pawnshop for 6d each.” The branch is now seeking a machine that will stamp or engrave the names of ex-servicemen members on the campaign medals issued to them by the Government.
