Double Success For Minoru At Forbury Park

[SPECIAL TO STAR]

DUNEDIN, Oct. 16.

Minoru, an aged Quite Sure gelding, owned and trained by L. F. Berkett, made amends for several rather unlucky performances recently, when he was . the outstanding pacer on the second day of the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s spring meeting today, winning both the principal events. Better favoured in the running Minoru got through on the rails in the straight in both his races today and he finished courageously under pressure in both races to take the major honours. In the President’s Handicap he was favourite on both machines, but he returned well over double figures on the win machine when he succeeded in the Farewell Handicap. Quite Happy led into the straight in the President’s Handicap fromSeacraft, Stirling Castle, Dragoman, Minmi Boy, Minoru, Mountain Hall. Indigo and Make Believe. Seacraft stopped badly in the last furlong and Minoru squeezed through oh the rails a few strides from the post to' win from Quite Happy, With Dragoman three-quarters of a length away third. Heads separated Mountain Hall, Indigo, Make Believe and Minmi Boy, who were almost in line behind the three first horses. Caudray and Henry of Navarre led round the heme turn in the Farewell Handicap with Minoru, Positive, Gamble King, Follow Me and. Dragoman following closely. Minoru came through on the rails and in a good finish beat Henry of Navarre by half a length. Follow Me finished fast into third place and the next to finish were Positive, Dragoman and Gamble King. Emulous, who was favourite on the win machine, did not leave the barrier until the field was well on the journey. The meeting concluded in overcast weather before a large attendance.
