COMPANY DEFIES AUSTRALIAN COAL BOARD ORDER
(Rec. 2 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Because Australian Iron and Steel, Ltd, defied a Joint Coal Board order to cease work on the Kemeira tunnel, south coast miners resumed their strike today. The dispute arose when 60 members of the Australian Workers’ Union, working on the tunnel project, refused to become members of the Miners’ Federation. The board ordered work to cease in order to avoid continuation of the strike while discussions continued. The company, however, considers the order to be outside the board's powers and therefore illegal. «
