AIR CHIEF SAYS BRITAIN “MUST LOOK TO TEETH”
LONDON, Oct. 16
“There are a few people in Britain who do not realise that we must look to our teeth if we are to maintain a peace worth having, “said Marshall of the Royal Air- Force Lord Tedder, speaking to the Scottish section of the Headmaster’s Conference in Glasgow. “In these days of power politics, naked and unashamed, the fate of the impotent is tragic indeed, as we have seen in the last few months. Few people would challenge that the Royal Air Force, is literally our first means, of defence. “Air defence must come first. The most effective defence against an attack is to stop' it at the source. This might be the only way, especially against rockets. Without air superiority, which is the role of the joint fighter-bomber force to secure, no effective military operations are possible, nor can the industrial and econorriic life of Britain be maintained.
