FRONTIER MAC IS FROM FAMOUS WINNING FAMILY

In spite of his win in the Coronation Handicap at Avondale on September 11, since when he had run unplaced in the Somers Memorial Cup at Te Aroha, Frontier Mac paid over a quarter of a century when he scored easily in the Mitehelson Cup on the opening day of the Auckland Racing Club’s spring meeting at Ellerslie last Saturday. The second horse, Conspiracy, who also ran unplaced in the Somers Memorial Cup the previous week, was even less fancied than Frontier Mac and paid double figures for a place. The win favourite, Valley Boy> finished third.

Frontier Mac revelled in the going and once he got to the front about seven furlongs from home the result was .never in doubt. It is customary for him to show his best form when the ground is heavy. Conspiracy made a good showing and so did the topweights, Valley Boy and Beau le Havre, although neither ever looked like winning. Star Perofrmer made a forward move inside the last halfmile, but was never dangerous. Frontier Mac is bred well enough to win in dress circle company as he is by Chatsworth from that fine race mare, Stretto, by Hunting Song—The Begum, the dam of High Caste. Withdrawn

Sandy Logan has been withdrawn from the Orari Trot Handicap at the Geraldine Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday.

Highland Fling’s Sister Bonny Heather, a recent addition to L F Berkett’s team at “Shannon Lodge,” Springston, is a three-year-old sister to Highland Fling. Bonny Heather will probably have her first start at Addington in the Riccarton Stakes.

Westport Appearance The Buller Owners’ and Breeders Association has made arrangements for W K Tatterson to take his champion pacer, Emulous, to Westport early in December. Emulous will be the main attraction at a meeting to be conducted by the association.

Sold to Adelaide Red Poppy has been sold to an Adelaide buyer. Red Poppy, which is in foal to Worthy Gold (a son of Gold Bar) is out of a winner at the trotting gait in Violet Wrack (dam of Passive) by Wrack from Violet Wilkes, by Wildwood from a mare by Jay Gould. £j. H. Morris’s Appointment

Morris will take over Lochwinnoch shortly for Mr Glazebrook, but in the meantime Ballinagh is to remain with A. J. Martin at Carterton.

From Rorqual Victory Globe, a place-getter in three of his races as a three-year-old last term, will have his first start for the season in the Geraldine Trot Handicap on Saturday. One of J. Young’s team at Addington, Victory Globe, which races in the interests of Mrs L. McKeon, is by Springfield Globe from Rorqual, by Man o’ War from a Wildwood -Jnr. -mare.

Beau le Havre’s Injury Beau le Havre, ran a fairly good race under the conditions in the Mitehelson Cup. He was showing tenderness afterwards, and the radio therapy plant on the course was called into use. Trainer J. Farrell later said he was satisfied that the Beau Repaire horsfe would be all right, the slight filling round the sesamoid bone being due to a knock he had received before the race.

From Great Winning Family Gold Script, who won the Welcome Stakes at Ellerslie last week, is regarded in the north as likely to develop into one of the best colts of the year. By Gold Nib, Gold Script is from Cairness, by Tiderace —My Own, by Lord Inex—Tressida, by Tressady— Princess Melton, by Duke of Melton. Big winning members of the family include Raasay, Runnymede, Simba, Happy Landing, My Own. My Own was the dam of Cairness (which did not race), Tidal Wave, Yours Truly and Caithness.

Much Superior Tauloch was an odds-on favourite for the Great Northern Guineas last week and he had a very easy victory, being much superior to his opponents. After being well placed on the outside of the and Ozami, at the home turn, Tauloch went away to score effortlessly by three lengths from Beau Conte who finished gamely under pressure. The race was robbed of considerable interest when the second favourite, Rizzio, was left standing at the post and took no part in the contest.

Long-Priced Winner

Horses from the Auckland province won half the programme last Saturday at the opening of the Wanganui Trotting Club’s meeting, but the main prize evaded the northerners, the Adding-ton-trained Elmdale beating the hot favourite, Spring Fashion. The Templeton trainer C. R. Berkett, won a division of the Aramoho Handicap with Ennola, and D. W. Hansen, Palmerston North, carried off a double with Sirius, who returned a dividend just under four score when she won the opening event, and nearly double figures in her second win. Sirius is a five-year-old brown mare by Josedale Dictator—First Axworthy. She was having her first starts for the new season, and last term hadeight starts without reaching a place,
