GOLF SILK IS ONLY NEW ZEALANDER TO ENTER THIRD ROUND
MELBOURNE, October 12. Five New Zealanders were beaten today in the second and third rounds of the Australian amateur golf championship at the Metropolitan links, Melbourne. Tire only bright spot in what was otherwise the dullest and most disappointing day of the New Zealanders tour of Australia was B. M. Silk’s 9 and 8 win over A. C. Bennie, who, however, is almost unknown in championship golf. Scores:—

1949 L.G.U. Tourney To Be Held At Invercargill
(P.A.) PALMERSTON N„ October 12. The 1949 women’s golf championship will be held at the Otatara course (Invercargill). This was announced at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Ladies’ Golf Union. The New Zealand autjnnn foursomes tournament will be played at Heretaunga and the veterans' tournament at Hamner Springs. For purposes of the competition for the newly presented Russell Cup, the North and South islands have been divided into four districts,'.which will meet and play off annually. The first competition will be held next season. The districts are: Auckland and Soutn Auckland; Wellington, Manawatu and Hawke’s Bay; Nelson, West Coast, Marlborough. Canterbury, and South Canterbury; North Otago and Southland. The election of officers resulted:— Patroness. Mrs Guy Lewis; executive, Mesdames L. I. Day (South Auckland), D. M. Macrae (Wellington); L. R. Curtis (Taranaki), N. S. Hawkes (South Canterbury-North Otago), and G. M. Burnett (Otago-Southland).
