Mr J. Mulcare left last evening on a visit to Christchurch. Mr M. R. Spiers left today on a visit to Christchurch. Mr C. A. Montgomerie left today on a visit to Christchurch. Mr D. Jellie left today for Christchurch. Mr K. R. Fisher, of the State Mmes Department office staff at Dobson, left this morning for Ohura on relieving duty. The Mayor of Greymouth, Mr F. F. Boustridge, will leave tomorrow for Westport to attend a conference of the South Island Local Bodies’ Association. Messrs N. J. Adamson, horticultural superintendent, and C. S. Richardson, orchard instructor, of the Department of Agriculture, Nelson, will arrive tomorrow on a visit to Greymouth. Mr A. McDonald, of Wellington, was nominated for the position of manager of the New Zealand Rugby football team which will tour South Africa next year by the management committee of the Otago Rugby Union last evening. Mr V. G. Cavanagh, jun, of Dunedin, was nominated for the position of assistant manager.—(P.A.) The Very Rev. Father' W. J. Lockington, S.J., whose death occurred in Australia on Sunday, was born at Ross 77 years ago. He was a noted preacher and writer and for many years was in charge of the Jesuit parish in Melbourne. He was an ardent advocate for freedom for Ireland and many years ago addressed meetings on the West Coast on this subject. As a youth F’ather Lockington was well known as a racing cyclist. Messrs Henry and George Lockington, of Reefton, are brothers of Father Lockington, and Sister M. Gabriel (Convent of Mercy, Greymouth), Mrs J. Phillips and Mrs F. McLaughlin QGteymoUth) are nieces.
