TWO MEN INJURED WHEN TRUCK LEFT ROAD TO AVOID COW

Swerving to avoid a cow on the road about half a mile north of Kumara Junction, a motor-truck struck a ditch and overturned about 8 o’clock last evening, two of the three men in the cab being fairly seriously injured. The injured men are: — Percy Pearson, aged 35, married Preston road, Greymouth; broken leg. George William Boddy, aged 22, single, 'of 34 Shakespeare street, Greymouth; fractured jaw. Both are patients at the Grey Hospital, where their condition this afternoon was reported to be satisfactory. The men• are members of the workshop staff of the Ministry of Works, Greymouth, and were returning to town in a departmental truck driven by Raymond Mosley, of Alexander street. The cow appeared on the road in the path of the car and the driver swerved to avoid striking the beast. The driver was not injured in the accident, but the truck was badly damaged. The place of the accident, near the new 3YZ transmitting station at Taramakau, is reported to have been the scene of several other recent accidents due to the presence of stock on the road.
