TWO NEW CASES OF POLIOMYELITIS

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, October 8. Two new cases of infantile paralysis were reported in the Central Auckland health district today. They were a girl aged five and a boy aged 12, both from One Tree Hill. . . • With the readmission of a gril of 18 for further treatment, there were 49 positive cases and three suspects in hospital tonight. Five cases of the disease have been diagnosed in the central Auckland district this week, but Dr L. S. Davis, Medical Officer of Health at Auckland, said that the onset of two of these dated back to the previous week. It did not appear, therefore, that there was any unusual increase in the incidence. For the first day for more than six weeks no fresh cases of poliomyelitis were reported in the Wellington health district today. Since the outbreak took a fresh hold in the Wellington district early in August there have been 116 cases reported.
