41 Chinese Leave by Air Forty-one Chinese left Auckland by Skymaster for Sydney yesterday on their way to China, some for good and some for a holiday. Some will bring wives and children back to New Zealand with them. —(P.A.) Labour Newspaper A question asked by Mr W. A. Sheat (Opposition, Patea) about the wisdom of the Bank of New Zealand’s advancing money to Labour Newspapers, Ltd., publishers of the Southern Cross, was answered by the Minister of Finance (Mr Nash) in the House of Representatives yesterday. Mr Nash said that as a matter of policy the Government never interfered with advances made by the Bank of New Zealand, in which the confidential relationship of banker and client was maintained and respected. Speaking to the answer, the Minister of Labour, Mr McLagan, speaking as one of the directors of the Southern Cross said that all newspapers faced losses in the first years of work. He would predict that the Southern Cross would still be going when one of its main critics, the member for Hauraki (Mi’ A. S. Sutherland), had finished his political career.—(P.A.)
