Water Polo Out? The Olympic swimming fathers are experimenting with measures to remove the arts of near-drowning from water polo competition. If they cannot no it, the sport may be removed from the Olympic Games, according to authorities who witnessed the recent slugging and tugging matches that were supposed tb pass for good, clean competition at the Olympic Pool, London. Water polo was one of the twin bad boys of the 1948 Games. The other was boxing, and in that sport, too. there is a need for some agreeable international standards of technique and judging. First move to clean up water polo in the four years leading to the 1952 Games at Helsinki is a recommended experiment with South American rules. The South American way is like basketball, with the idea of reducing underwater sleight-of-hand tactics that are visible only in the reflections of agony on the victim’s face.
All Blacks Need Dinner Suits Dinner suits are essential for an All Black tour overseas, said Mr H. F. McLean, who toured Britain with the 1935 team, commenting on the Rugby Union’s decision not to provide dress suits for the South African tour. “On the 1935 tour we wore dinner jackets practically every night. Restricting the 1949 players to blazers will have the effect of completely tying them to official functions.” Mr McLean added that South African cabarets and night clubs were unlikely to waive the rules regarding formal dress. He thought every member of the 1949 team would be wise to take a dinner jacket. When the 1935 team were in Britain, members heard that the 1924 team could not attend many social functions because they did not have dinner clothes.
