GOLF FINAL OF FOOTBALL MATCH TO BE PLAYED ON SUNDAY

The final of the Brown and Walters Cups i’ourball best ball competition 'wifi be played, by the Greymouth Men’s Golf Club at the Kaiata links lon Sunday, commencing at the first and tenth tees at 9.15 a.m. The draw is as follows: — Boustridge and Stewart, Cameron and Woodhouse; Francis and Reid, I Cox and Potter; Garth and J. Phillips, Thomas and R. Anderson; Wallis and Alford, Taylor and Bluett; Stopforth and Chibnail, Hardie and Patton; Heaphy and O,Donnell, Hill 'and McMillan; Lindley and Murdoch, Meldrum, Ryan and Harry; Ray and Harrington, Wilkins and Luey; Sansom and Dawson, J. Smith and Corbishley; Rhodes and Harrison, Stirmn and Chivers. The final of the intermediate 'championship will also be played at [Kaiata on Sunday morning commencing at 9 o’clock. In an inter-club fourball best ball match played between d team representing the Greymouth Women's Golf Club and a Westport women’s team, at Kaiata on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Westport team won by eight games to six. Results were as follows, Greymouth players mentioned first: — Mrs Hooper and Mrs Wilkins lost to Mrs Woodward and Mrs Bowling 4 and 3; Mrs Robertson and Mrs Hannan beat Mrs Morley and Mrs Slee 4 and 3; Mrs Murdoch and Mrs Chivers beat Mrs Fair and Mrs Tait 4 and 2; Miss Munson and Mrs McCarthy beat Mrs Craig and Mrs McVicar 8 and 7; Mrs Ryan and Mrs A. K. Smith lost to Mrs Moss and Mrs K. Smith 3 and 2. In the singles ■ matches played on Wednesday morning, the results were:—

NORTH ISLAND WINS MATCH AGAINST SOUTHERN TEAM

(P.A.) PALMERSTON N., Oct. 7. The New Zealand Ladies’ Golf Union’s annual championship tournament started well this morning. There are exactly 100 entries. The weather was ideal, and a light easterly breeze had nearly dried up the course. The most important event today was the match between teams representing the North and South Islands, which resulted in a runaway victory for the North Island bby 7 games to 1.

I Miss E. Wilkinson (Grange. Papatoetoe), the New Zealand champion, had to produce her best to beat Miss ,C. Smith (Invercargill), 2 up. I Mrs H. Murray (Miramar) had to ifight hard to beat Mrs B. E. Andrews i (Hokitika) by the narrowest possible .margin. Mrs Andrews started off ishakily, and picked up at the second, 1 j third, and fourth holes, Mrs Murray being 3 up. Out in 39, Mrs Murray headed for home 3 up. The Hokitika player showed good fighting spirit to square the game at the sixteenth, and Mrs Murray just got home by taking the last hole in 4 to 5. The other important event today, ivas the New Zealand foursomes championship, which saw the holders,, Mrs G. W. Hollis and Miss Helen, Buchanan, retain the title with a| orilliant card of 78, 39 each way.

Next came four pairs: Miss R. C. ! Hodges and Mrs G. H. McDonald .(Hamilton), Mrs H. Murray and Mrs J. A. Clachan (MiramarW-Mrs R. S. Fullerton-Smith and Mrs J. Ball, and Miss J. Duncan (Wanganui) and Miss A. Pritchard (New Plymouth), who all took 83.

Australian Plays Best Round Of His Life (Rec. 10.55 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 7. With a record-breaking final round of 63, the' Australian, Norman von Nida, won the Masters’ golf tournament at Sunningdale. His total was 272 for the 72 holes. Fred Daly, 274, was second, ; and van Donck, 276, third. Von Nida described his 63 as “the greatest round in my life.” He began the last round six strokes behind Van Donck and by the eleventh had taken the lead.
